Meet the Committee Chairs

Community Service Chairs:

Alex Evans

Get to Know Me: Hello everyone! My name is Alex Evans, and I am a Senior at the University at Buffalo majoring in accounting. I am from Syracuse, NY, and a fun fact about me is I enjoy hiking!

Why I joined Beta Alpha Psi: I decided to join Beta Alpha Psi to become more involved in the accounting program and help prepare myself for future career opportunities. As a transfer student, I was looking for an organization that would allow me the opportunity to grow my professional development skills and make connections with like-minded students within the School of Management!

What I look Forward To: As a Committee Chair, I hope to gain more leadership experience, but maximize the opportunities that other students can receive from Beta Alpha Psi. I have always enjoyed volunteering in my hometown, and I am excited to bring that experience and interest into our organization. Ultimately, I want to make it easier for others to obtain community service hours and make strong connections within our local community.

Gaston Xu

Get to Know Me: Hi!, my name is Gaston Xu and im currently a rising Junior majoring in BS accounting! I am from Brooklyn NY(go knicks!), and a fun fact about me; when I was in middle school I used to account my Halloween candy.

Why I joined Beta Alpha Psi: I joined Beta Alpha Psi because I wanted to become more involved in the accounting field and surround myself with driven students who share similar career goals. At first, I saw it as a resume builder, but I quickly realized how much BAP could help me grow through internship advice, leadership opportunities, professional development, networking, and friendships. Beta Alpha Psi connects strongly with my goals of becoming a CPA, gaining audit or tax experience, and eventually working in public accounting at a Big 4 or regional firm.

What I look Forward To: As I step into my Community Outreach Committee Chair position, I’m most excited to help create meaningful opportunities for BAP members to give back to the community. I look forward to planning events that increase participation, bring members together, and make community service more impactful. I’m also excited to work with the e-board, build my leadership skills, meet more members, and help support others’ personal and professional growth.

Fundraising Chairs:

Tommy Mathews

What I look Forward To: I’ve had a lot of fun in BAP since joining and being able to help plan events to hopefully improve the club is something I want to do. As a fundraising committee chair, I hope to make unique fundraising events that make members excited to participate in them, rather than feeling obligated to. I am excited to continue to make new friends through BAP and learn about the profession together.

Why I joined Beta Alpha Psi: I became a part of Beta Alpha Psi, to create lifelong relationships with other aspiring accounting majors and to network with professionals in the real world to gain experience to help me become a successful accountant. Beta Alpha Psi has helped me become more intentional with the people I keep around me and has sharpened my public speaking skills. Most importantly, the organization has introduced me to driven friends that are just as dedicated to becoming the next generation of professionals.

What I look Forward To: As a Disclosure Chair, I hope to make our social media platforms more interactive while keeping everyone informed about our chapter’s upcoming activities. Davina Weng

Get to Know Me: Hello there! My name is Davina and I’m from a small town called Cheektowaga; that’s on the outskirts of Buffalo. I’m currently an incoming junior within the accounting program. A fun fact is that ever since middle school; I used to run in circles over pieces of plastic and jump in sand pits for the plot.

Why I joined Beta Alpha Psi: I had the intention of joining Beta to allow me to develop my soft skills in order to prepare for the rigorous accounting field. I was stoked to find such a credible organization like Beta Alpha Psi, that provided its members with the exact resources to succeed within any business field. It’s further allowed me to foster stronger connections with other students in the School of Management and give back to an organization that’s given me so much.

What I look Forward To: As one of the disclosure chairs, I am thrilled to be able to have the honor of broadcasting chapter events and accomplishments. With this I’m hoping to take on more responsibilities within this role. I am so excited for the gracious opportunity to help contribute to Beta’s success.

Evan Mauter

Get to Know Me: Hello everyone! My name is Evan Mauter, and I am in my final year of the undergraduate accounting program here at the University at Buffalo. I am from a small town called Horseheads, NY, next to some more notable places like Corning, NY. One thing to know about me is that if there is an exam coming and I’m studying late, there is a 100% chance you’ll find me at La Rosas in the commons.

Why I joined Beta Alpha Psi: I joined Beta Alpha Psi because I have some excellent friends around me who constantly push me to be the best accountant I can be. That being said, they encouraged me to join, and I have not regretted it since. The positive effects it has had on my career trajectory and the friends I’ve met within the organization have made it worth every second.

What I look Forward To: As VITA chair, I want to make the learning process as transparent as possible to newcomers. It’s not uncommon for VITA to be an accounting student’s first real-world experience within the accounting field. That being said, it can be intimidating upon first glance, as it was for me. However, once you begin the process, you’ll learn it’s nothing to be scared of, and I just want students to realize this and gain valuable experience!
